Green Vibes in the Heart of the Romanian Carpathians: How the GreenVibe Project United European Youth for a Better Future

From March 20 to 29, 2026, the picturesque village of Trăisteni (Valea Doftanei) in Romania hosted an international youth exchange called GreenVibe. The Erasmus+ project, hosted by the Together Romania Association, brought together young people aged 17 to 25 from five European countries – Slovakia, Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, and the host country, Romania.

GreenVibe was not just another project about global warming filled with long theoretical lectures. It was designed as a "living laboratory" where passion for the environment met practical skill-building. The main goal was to motivate young people to take tangible action.

Throughout the week, participants dived into the principles of the circular economy. But they didn't stop at words – during activities like The Upcycle Challenge and in the special GreenVibe Makerspace, they designed and handcrafted upcycled products using local materials.

The Romanian mountains and the stunning surroundings of the Doftana Valley provided the perfect backdrop for disconnecting from the digital routine. The program was packed with activities that combined learning with the outdoors. What did the young people experience during the project?

Ecological Fieldwork: During the Traisteni Eco-quest and Trace my footprint activities, participants learned to assess ecosystem health directly in the field and experience biodiversity firsthand. Later, they found peace and connection during the Forest bathing & dialogue activity.

Creative Workshops: The youth worked on creating Short films for a green planet and collaboratively designed The GreenVibe action manual during creative sprints.

Trip to the Metropolis: One of the program's highlights was discovering sustainable solutions in the capital city during the Bucharest: urban green & heritage quest.

GreenVibe in the Classroom: Participants prepared and simulated educational activities for schools, enabling them to spread ecological awareness among their peers upon returning home.

The learning experience would not have been complete without intercultural dialogue. Every evening belonged to a different country through Cultural evenings. Participants presented not only their national food and traditions but also shared successful local eco-initiatives from their home countries.

Living together at the comfortable Loussiana Inn, sharing responsibilities, tackling daily team challenges, and engaging in joint reflections (Daily pulse) helped create a strong international community. As a bonus, all participants improved their English, communication skills, project management, and teamwork abilities.

At the end of the project, each participant received the European Youthpass certificate, validating their newly acquired skills. However, even more important were the shared Action plan and personal letters containing a Message to my future self.

The GreenVibe project was clear proof that when young, motivated people from different corners of Europe come together, they can not only share their concerns about the planet but, above all, actively work towards making it greener and more sustainable.
