The "Green Bytes" project successfully brought together 37 young people, aged 18-24, and group leaders from six countries: Slovakia, Romania, Italy, Poland, Hungary, and Bulgaria. The project’s core mission was to address environmental challenges by empowering youth with modern digital skills. It aimed to increase ecological awareness, develop digital competencies, and foster active citizenship, with a special emphasis on including participants with fewer opportunities due to economic, social, or geographical barriers.
During the main youth exchange, which took place in September 2025, participants engaged in a dynamic program based on non-formal education. They took part in workshops and discussions that explored critical topics such as climate change, the individual's ecological footprint, and the impact of consumer behavior. A significant part of the project involved hands-on digital activities. Participants learned to use digital tools for environmental advocacy by creating promotional videos that highlighted sustainable digital solutions. They also collaborated in teams to design concepts for innovative eco-friendly mobile applications, channeling their creativity into practical solutions. A key activity was a public survey conducted in the city of Košice, where participants used a digital questionnaire to engage with local residents about their environmental concerns. The data gathered was later analyzed and used to propose tangible improvements.
Beyond the thematic workshops, the project strongly emphasized intercultural learning and personal development. Each national group hosted a cultural evening, sharing their traditions through presentations, quizzes, dances, and local food, which greatly enhanced mutual understanding and built strong bonds. Working in diverse international teams improved participants' communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. The project created a safe and supportive environment that boosted the confidence of participants, particularly those with fewer opportunities, and equipped them with valuable competences for their future personal and professional lives.
The impact of "Green Bytes" was designed to extend far beyond the exchange itself. The digital content created, including videos and app designs, served as tangible outputs for broader dissemination. At the end of the project, all participants committed to a follow-up action plan. They were obliged to organize at least one local workshop or environmental activity in their home communities to share the knowledge and skills they had gained. This strategy ensured that the project's positive influence reached a wider audience, creating a ripple effect of environmental awareness and digital literacy across Europe. Participants left not only with a Youthpass certificate but as motivated ambassadors for a sustainable future.
